When I first started cutting my own hair, the first pair of hair clippers I bought were from Walmart, of course!
They were cheap! They were a Wahl brand, and they only cost me about $20.
Walmart clippers aren’t bad for starting out, but once you get serious about cutting hair, you’ll want to invest in some better quality ones, for sure.
Depending on your location, clippers at Walmart are kept in different aisles. At my Walmart, they are kept in aisle B12, but this probably won’t be the same aisle at your store. Head back towards the razors and personal hygiene products, and you should find them there.
If you want to find out what aisle they’re in at your store, just go to Walmart.com. On their website, you can choose a store based on zip code, and it will tell you which aisle they’re in (you’ll notice that the aisles change from store to store, even stores that are very close to one another).
How much do Walmart hair clippers cost?
Walmart clippers will cost around $20 (or so), if you buy them in the store. However, they do have a lot more expensive ones online.
They generally have the low-end Wahl brand in the store, but you can find the higher-end brands online (some even professional-grade).
The professional ones can get up over $100 — if that’s what you’re after.
Does Walmart sell clipper guards?
The hair clippers at Walmart usually come in a kit — clipper guards, a comb, scissors, etc.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy clipper guards by themselves. So, if you’re looking to do that, you’ll be better off finding them online — that are made for the type of clipper you have.
Otherwise, you might have a problem with the guards fitting properly, and you don’t want that.
Are Walmart clippers any good?
Walmart clippers aren’t bad when you’re just starting out. I cut my hair with some Walmart clippers for a few months before I decided that I needed to upgrade.
The reason I needed to upgrade was because the Walmart clippers were just not the quality I needed.
The haircut I like to give myself is called a “skin-fade”, so I get it really short on the sides, and then it fades up to about a 1/4 inch of hair on top.
This was difficult to do with the Walmart set that I had because you really have to utilize the side lever when doing a fade that short.
With the clippers alone (no guard), I would have to adjust the lever 2 to 3 times to fade out the line — maybe more— until the lever was all the way open.
Normally, this isn’t a problem with professional-grade clippers (they’re better designed for that), but the Walmart ones I had problems with.
The lever would not stay where it needed to stay when I was cutting. It didn’t matter how much I tightened or loosened it, either. It simply wouldn’t stay were I needed it to, so I always had to check to make sure it hadn’t moved while I was cutting — this was a pain.
The lever rarely stayed where it needed to, which made me cut the hair at lengths I wasn’t trying to — that’s when I decided I needed to upgrade to something better.
What are the best hair clippers at Walmart?
The best clippers at Walmart (in my opinion) are the Andis brand — these are the ones I upgraded to.
They are not carried in the store, though (you will most certainly have to buy them online).
However, I bought mine on Amazon (even cheaper than what Walmart had them priced at).
They are not the most expensive clippers you can find, either! They only cost about $40 to $50, and I would put them up against any clipper out there (even some in the $100 range).
The clippers I still use today are called the Andis Envy (paid link), and I love them. I’ve been using them for years. And so far, I haven’t found a more expensive pair I like better.
Not saying there aren’t any; I just haven’t found any worth the extra money.
I’ve tried a few different kinds — including the Andis Master — and I still think the Envy is a better clipper.
Conclusion
If you’re in a bind (or looking for something cheap), you can almost always find a pair of hair clippers at Walmart. You can even find them at Target, CVS, and Walgreens (they also carry cordless trimmers and shavers, by the way).
If you’re unsure where to find these items, head towards the razors and hygiene products, and you should be able to find them near by.
