SALVATION TESTIMONY - Manny Rodriguez

I was saved in November of 1988. I was raised a Catholic. I went through Catholic school as a child, was an altar boy, went to confessional, and the whole 9 yards. Due to marital problems, my parents separated when I was about 10 years old. My father lived in New York. My mother lived in South Carolina. My sister and I moved down to South Carolina to live with our mother and baby brother. After a while, we became acquainted with our neighbor’s children who lived across from us in the trailer park we lived in. The mother of our new friends was a Godly black woman named Mrs. Kamille Perkins, who was raising 4 children on her own. She began witnessing to me and inviting my sister and I to church. Going to a Baptist church was a culture shock for me considering my Catholic background. Through the preaching of the Gospel I soon found out that I was a sinner on my way to hell and that confession to a priest was not good enough for the forgiveness of my sins. One night I got under great conviction about my sinful condition during the preaching of God’s word. When the preacher gave the invitation, I was compelled by the Holy Spirit to go forward and receive Christ as my Saviour. But due to my timidness and fear of the crowd I didn’t go forward. That night going home the conviction of the Holy Spirit didn’t leave me. I couldn’t go to sleep that night. Finally, I decided to kneel by my bedside and received Christ as my Saviour. And for over 20 years now, I have not regretted making that decision.  Since then, I was able to help lead my parents to the Lord by the grace of God.  God saved our home as my parents have now been married for over 30 years.  Praise the Lord!

CALL TO THE MINISTRY

Throughout my youth, I always had a fascination about preaching. Preachers were my idols. I would sometimes walk off to a remote place in the woods where I lived and practiced preaching. I preached my first message at a youth meeting when I was 13 years old. I preached my second meeting at a Youth Camp Meeting in Arcadia, LA when I was about 14. When I was about 18 years old, God began to deal strongly with me about living a consecrated life of service to Him. One Saturday I went to downtown Bay Street to pass out Gospel tracts and to support the men in our Church who were street preachers. As I witnessed the open-air preaching, God began to stir my spirit about preaching on the street. When the last street preacher finished his open-air sermon, though unprepared and unplanned, I stepped up and preached on Hell from Ps. 9:17. I was so excited about that experience afterwards that I made a promise to God that evening that if he’d teach me how to preach, I’d dedicate my life to the Gospel ministry. To make a long story short, it wasn’t long before I was not only preaching on the street on a weekly basis, but I was receiving opportunities to preach in the church, to the youth, as a fill-in for the Pastor and Assistant Pastor, as a fill-in for Pastors of other churches. I’ve preached in funerals, nursing homes, tent meetings, Bible conferences, Christian day schools, on mission-fields, and even in a hospital on one occasion. Over and over again, God has confirmed to me His call upon my life to the Gospel ministry.

God has been good to me.  He has blessed me with the best wife a preacher could ever have for a "help-meet" and three wonderful children (one on the way).  I am both humbled and honored that God would call an unprofitable servant like myself to the mission-field.  May God be glorified in all the we do in His service here in Puerto Rico.

SALVATION TESTIMONY - Maria Rodriguez

I grew up in Brownsville, Tx.  My family and I have attended Iglesia Bautista Fundamental pastored by Victor Alvarez since I was five years old.  A lady had spoken to me and told me that if I wanted to go to heaven and not go to hell, I needed to pray and ask God to save me, and so I did.  Some time later our church started up a christian school.  My parents decided that they wanted us kids to receive a christian education, so they put us in the church school.  Listening to chapel services and church services I realized that I wasn't saved.  I had never admitted that I was a sinner and that I needed my sins forgiven.  I now realized that Jesus had died and shed His blood for my sins and without His forgiveness I was on my way to hell.  So that wednesday evening I walked to the altar and received the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal saviour.

At the age of twenty-one, I joined the navy.  I got stationed in Beaufort, S.C. for my first duty station.  I  arrived in Beaufort in March of 2000.  I started looking for a spanish baptist church that I could attend, but could not find one.  Consequently I started going to an english church in town.  The preaching was too bland for me though.  I was used to harder preaching.  A few months later, in September, I was walking into La Nopalera, a mexican restaurant in town, when I saw a flyer on the door.  It mentioned that Calvary Baptist Church was offering bilingual services.  I started attending and found it to be what I was looking for.  The person in charge of those services was Manny Rodriguez.

After a few weeks we started dating.  When I went home for the holidays, I spoke to my pastor, Bro. Alvarez about the relationship I had with Manny.  He told me that since I was dating a preacher that if we wound up getting married I should be ready and willing to be a pastor's wife or missionary's wife.  But I wanted to finish my enlistiment, do my four years of college, and then go on with my life.  Being a pastor's wife or missionary's wife did not fit into my plans.  So when I returned to Beaufort I broke off things with Manny.  Some months later he started dating another young lady.  I was upset but at the same time I was relieved that I did not have to change my plans.  God started dealing with me about the matter.  He made me realize that I was putting my plans first and not His will.  After a few months of mentally arguing with God, I surrendered myself to His will.  I let Him have total control of my life.  Soon after that, God brought Manny and I back together.  We were married on November 10, 2002.

Some time ago my husband told me that God was calling him to the mission field of Puerto Rico.  I can now say that I am willing and ready to go with a glad heart wherever God will lead us!

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FROM OUR PASTOR

Calvary Baptist Church

256 Savannah Highway

Beaufort, S.C. 29906

May 23, 2007

Dear Brethren;

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that this letter finds you well and prospering in your behalf for the Gospel both here and abroad.

We beseech you for your consideration in the help through prayer and financial support of Bro. Emanuel Rodriguez and his family who have surrendered themselves to be missionaries to the field of Puerto Rico.

Bro. Manny was raised in this church for the most part of his youth and saved through this ministry. He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from our 3 year Bible Institute (Beaufort Bible Institute 1999). The Lord brought Maria, who was already a professing Christian to this church by her association with United States Navy in 2000. They were married in 2002 and at this present time have 2 beautiful daughters.

Bro. Manny and Maria have shown their desire for service in the ministry of the Gospel ever since they were married; they have worked with the Hispanic people that the Lord has brought in contact with our ministry for the past 6 years.

Bro. Manny has manifested himself to be a very capable Bible teacher and preacher with a very strong burden to reach the Hispanic people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am sure, as his pastor, that upon personal examination you will find him and his wife to be very qualified for this calling.

Thank you for your consideration and God’s speed to you and yours.

Sincerely, your fellow servant in Christ Jesus,

Karl M. Baker

SERVING CHRIST IN PUERTO RICO SINCE 1976

Dear Friends in Christ,

My name is Charles Meek and I have had the joy of serving Christ in Puerto Rico for almost 31 years. God has been very good to us through all these years.

A little more than eight years ago it was my joy to preach in Beaufort, South Carolina and while there I met a young man by the name of Emanuel Rodriguez. He impressed me as a young man God could use on the mission field and I talked to him extensively about it.

He felt led to come down and look over the mission field. He was so impressed that he came and spent his honeymoon here looking at the mission field.

He returned with his wife and family to visit us a couple of weeks. He told me that he is now sure that Puerto Rico is his mission field. I also talked some with his wife, Maria Guadalupe. She has assured me that she is willing to follow Manny wherever the Lord leads him. She has made an impression on our church also. His two young daughters, Jasmin (3 years old) and Clarissa (2 years old) are some very well behaved, loving children. These will definitely be a very valuable asset to his ministry here.

Manny has been used of the Lord here to preach several times in our church and twice on my radio program. He has also preached in the Christian High school in San German and will be preaching for them again at their graduation service. I feel that God has great things in store for him when he gets here on the field.

Please consider him for your missionary. I just know that he will make a good one for the Lord!

If you have any questions please feel free to call me or contact me by email. fammeek@caribe.net. Cell phone (787) 487-5611.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

MAY THE LORD RICHLY BLESS YOU IS MY PRAYER.

IN CHRIST’S SERVICE,

BRO. CHARLIE MEEK
